Spice up your VLC media Player interface with beautiful skins

VLC media player is probably the most popular media player available free of cost from Video Lan. VLC is an open source media player with great functionality and web support. VLC media player is a cross platform media player running on various platforms and operating systems like Microsoft Windows, Linux, Solaris or Mac OS. VLC provides a great user interface and controls so that the user can easily manipulate the media he's playing. However, the good old interface of VLC media player can be changed and you can customize the look of VLC media player as your convenience. I am writing here, how you can spice up the look of VLC media player with custom skins. If you are a Windows or a Linux user, then the skins will surely work for you. But bad news for Mac users is that you have no option to change the default skin of VLC media player till now. Skins do not work on Mac OS X!
Windows and Linux users go with these steps:
1. Download VLC media Player custom skins. You can download the official skin package from here.
This will download a lot of official skins for VLC media player in a zip archive.
2. Extract the zip archive and put the VLT files in a folder say VLC altogether.
3. Put all the extracted VLT files in the following folder:
Windows users: the skins folder in the VLC installation directory (e.g.C:\Program Files\VLC\skins)
Linux/Unix users copy the vlt files to: ~/.local/share/vlc/skins2/
Ubuntu users copy to: /usr/share/vlc/skins2/ using sudo cp /*.vlt /usr/share/vlc/skins2/ where  is the path of your folder where you have extracted the archive.
4. Then open your VLC media player settings and change your interface from native to skins. You can choose your desired skin already there or change it when you are in the skins mode by rightclicking somewhere on the skin and going to Interface>Choose Skin.
You may need to restart VLC media player to change to skins mode.

If you do not want to download all the vlt files and want to try specific skin, then you may go to http://www.videolan.org/vlc/skins.php and download and install the skin you want following the above mentioned steps.
